ll computing resources are gathered in the Computer Laboratory Center for the College of Engineering (CLCCE) located in a two-story building (Building 28) for a comprehensive and reasonable use of the facilities. It is maintained by the College of Engineering and is administrated by a Director. He is assisted in his function by eight members of staff.
The CLCCE provides the hardware and software support for all the College departments. All engineering programs provides undergraduate students with computation experience that is integrated throughout the curriculum. In order to support this task, the department maintains computers in laboratories and faculty/staff offices for instruction, research and administrative support functions.
The CLCCE is open to all engineering undergraduates during open access periods. Its main purpose is dedicated to provide the hardware and multimedia rooms; computer laboratories, multimedia rooms and a printing room.
Building 28 contains a total of fourteen (14) laboratories which are located in the first and second floors. The building is equipped with 249 computers with an average of 18 computers per laboratory. The types of computers are listed below:
- 25 Pentium IV 1.4 GHZ processor Dell personal computers
- 94 Pentium IV 2.4 GHZ processor Dell personal computers
- 94 Pentium IV 3.2 GHZ processor DTK personal computers
- 36 Pentium IV 2 GHZ processor Compaq personal computers
Building 28 is equipped with nine multimedia rooms. Four rooms are located on the first floor while the other five are on the ground floor. They are equipped with a computer, a roof-fixed data-show and an interactive board. Most of the other computing laboratories have multimedia support interactive board.
This room is located on the ground floor of Building 28, Room 28-120. The printing room offers all printing facilities related to senior project manuals and helps students to support their educational activities. The room contains:
- 2 Hewlet-Packard scanners,
- 1 Hewlet-Packard design-jet large format printer,
- 1 Epson large format printer,
- 1 Epson color laser printer and
- 1 Epson network laser printer.
Two types of printing are offered to students. Printed material of 15 pages or less (A3 - A4 formats and A3 – A0 plotter formats) is available on the ground floor, Room 28-120. Printed material of above 15 pages, A4 format, color printing, and printing of senior projects is available on the first floor. Besides the printing rooms, two disc jet color printers situated in the CLCCE demonstrator offices are also available for students use.
The College Computer Laboratory employs in addition to the Director, eight members: two demonstrators, three technicians, two assistant technicians and a follow up specialist. Their role is to provide technical assistance including installing software and trouble shooting.
